Back to Crystal Palace after loan

Esse reached the end of his loan to Coventry City, returning to Crystal Palace for the 2026/27 campaign, the loan club announced.

Analysis: Esse helped Coventry achieve promotion to the Premier League with two goals and one assist over 17 matches played (eight starts) during the previous EFL season. The 21-year-old has already seen action at the top level and could look for more involvement if he stays for a second stint with his parent team. However, he'll need to compete with more established players such as Ismaila Sarr and Yeremy Pino.

Not in squad Saturday

Esse (coach's decision) wasn't included in the match squad for Saturday's clash against West Ham United after a poor performance in the Carabao Cup game, coach Oliver Glasner told the media, according to News Shopper. "Let's say it was the last drop in the full glass. There were going on, I don't want to talk about the details because he deserves that they remain confidential. I wasn't pleased with his performance, but I will always start with what I did wrong to put him in this situation. It's easy to blame him for everything, but we all play our part for things to be where they are now. We have to find a solution together so he can help the team win games and score goals."

Analysis: Esse was left out of the match squad after his poor performance in the Carabao Cup game midweek. The young midfielder will have to prove to his coach that he has the level to be reintegrated with the senior squad if he wants to see more minutes in the Premier League, as he has only logged 24 minutes off the bench this season against Nottingham Forest.
